LABS

The CHARISMA Lab accepts current or recently graduated UNLV students as Undergraduate Research Assistants once a year. Applications are open all year and will be responded to shortly after the listed deadline. While students may identify a particular lab emphasis in which they wish to work, they will be accepted to the CHARISMA Lab as a whole.

You will be asked to attach a copy of your resume/CV (early documents are accepted) and a copy of your schedule for the upcoming semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • At what points during the year does the CHARISMA Lab hire new Research Assistants?

    • We interview and hire RAs at one time during the of year. Please see above for the deadline.

  • Do RAs work over the summer?

    • Formal required lab tasks begin in August and end in May.

    • However! You have the option to complete lab hours during the summer after you are admitted, but projects and need for RA’s vary from year to year.

  • How long is the RA commitment?​

    • Two semesters is required. If you are interested in continuing for another year, you are required to apply again.​

  • What is the structure of the CHARISMA Lab?​

    • Our lab is large and includes three sections, though we are all one lab. Every RA and graduate student is trained and involved in all aspects of the lab, including

      • ACT Lab

      • School Refusal and Anxiety Disorders Clinic/Lab

      • Selective Mutism Lab

  • What tasks will I likely be assigned?​

    • Tasks vary depending on your interest and placement though they may include research and/or clinical tasks.

    • Clinical tasks include:

      • Facilitating intake assessments with clients at the School Refusal and Anxiety Disorders Clinic, scoring psychological assessments, participating in therapy through exposures, gathering data with our community partners, and helping with assessments and therapy for children and adolescents in the care of Child Haven.

    • Research tasks include:

      • Gathering literature, data collection and entry in various databases, engaging in group or individual research projects, and various others.

    • All of these tasks are great CV builders!

  • How much time should I expect to spend in the lab?​

    • We require a 10 hour per week commitment and have opportunities for summer tasks, though that is optional.

    • We have a required monthly lab meeting. 

  • Do I have to take school credits to be an RA ("RA for credit")?​

    • No. You are able to volunteer in this lab as an RA; however, the 10 hours of lab work still applies.

    • If you want school credit, you would enroll in PSY 497 for 3 credits. More information will be provided to you if you are accepted.
